Suno
An AI music generator: describe a song in words — genre, mood, topic — and it produces a complete track with vocals and instruments. You can also write your own lyrics and have Suno set them to music.
Best for
Creating original music quickly — background tracks, song ideas, or just experimenting with what AI music generation can do.
Suitable for
Content creators, hobbyist musicians, and the curious; no music training needed.
Features
- Full songs from a text description
- Custom lyrics support
- Multiple genres and styles
- Instrumental-only option
What you get for free
The free tier provides a daily credit allowance for song generation, with output limited to non-commercial use. Paid plans add credits and commercial usage rights.
Where Suno falls short
The parts a product page will not tell you.
- Free output cannot be used commercially, and the rights position differs by plan.
- Vocals and lyrics can be muddy, with words that sound approximately right rather than clear.
- Control over song structure is limited — you steer rather than direct.
- The wider copyright questions around music generation are unsettled, which is a real consideration for commercial work.
Who should skip it
Professional music production, and any commercial project where certainty about rights is required.
Getting started
- 1Sign up at suno.com and describe a style rather than naming an artist — genre, instruments, tempo, mood.
- 2Write your own lyrics if the words matter. Generated lyrics are the weakest part of the output.
- 3Generate several versions of the same prompt. Variation between attempts is wide, and the third is often the usable one.
Our take
Genuinely fun, and useful for background music, jingles, drafts, and hearing an idea before committing to it. It is not close to replacing musicians, and the honest reason to be careful is legal rather than artistic: check what your plan actually permits before putting a generated track in anything public.
